Business Educational Opportunity Program (BEOP)

What is BEOP?
The Business Educational Opportunity Program (BEOP) is a collaborative program between the Foster School and the UW Office of Minority Affairs, Educational Opportunity Program Counseling Center. Services are geared towards providing assistance with admission, scholarships, academic advising and tutoring services. BEOP works with pre-business students to ensure a smooth transition to the Foster School.

Who can participate in BEOP activities?
All students affiliated with the UW Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) – which serves underrepresented minority, first-generation and low-income students – who have an interest in business are considered “BEOP Students”. If you would like more information about affiliating with this program, please contact the EOP Counseling and Advising Office.

Tutorial Services

The IC provides year round tutorial services in business core subjects, including calculus, economics, statistics and accounting. A wide variety of tutors are available to meet with students on a drop in basis. For more information about the Instructional Center and its tutorial services please visit the link above.

Writing Skills Assessment Workshop

The Writing Skills Assessment (WSA) is a required part of the Foster School of Business admissions process and must be completed prior to a student submitting their application. The WSA is made up of two essays which students must complete during a 90-minute timed period proctored by Foster School staff. The score earned on the WSA provides a quantitative measure of students’ ability to think analytically and communicate ideas in writing. Learn more about the format and grading rubric for the WSA here.

To ensure that all EOP-eligible students intent on applying to the Foster School are well prepared and feeling confident for the WSA, the Foster UDS team and UW EOP team have teamed up for over a decade to provide the annual Winter WSA Workshop. This program provides an in-depth dive into the test and includes a proctored and graded mock exam. To be eligible for this program, applicants must be EOP-eligible and planning to apply to Foster in one of the next two cycles.

Application Updates:
– 2023 Winter WSA Workshop – Application Closed
– 2024 Winter WSA Workshop – Will open in Autumn Quarter 2023

BEOP Workshops

These sessions are collaboratively planned between counselors in the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Counseling Center and the Foster School. The primary objective is to help inform EOP students of the stages of preparation for applying to the Foster School. The workshops are designed to give students the information needed to complete a competitive application.
