Fostering Inclusion: A Workshop to Advance Research on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Bringing journal editors and academics together on DEI scholarship

April 27 & 28, 2024

Saturday & Sunday

In Seattle at the University of Washington Foster School of Business

Junior scholars conducting research on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in accounting, finance, and related fields are invited to attend this two-day workshop. As part of the workshop, you will work in small writing groups and gain feedback from journal editors and your peers to accelerate your paper submission to a top journal. This workshop will be in person only, and participants are invited to attend all or part of the workshop activities as their schedule allows.

Workshop participants must register by February 29, 2024, to attend.

Journals invited

Accounting Journals:

  • The Accounting Review
  • Journal of Accounting Research
  • Contemporary Accounting Research
  • Journal of Accounting & Economics
  • Review of Accounting Studies

Finance Journals:

  • Journal of Finance
  • Journal of Financial Economics
  • Review of Financial Studies
  • Journal of Finance & Quantitative Analysis

Individuals can receive feedback on research manuscripts at any stage of development. Participants will submit their research, indicate their progress, and provide three keywords about their research on the registration form.

Examples of research that would be related to DEI include but are not limited to:

  • Scholarship investigating how firms, managers, capital market regulators, intermediaries, auditors, and investors consider issues or create specific outcomes related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in their activities, such as
    • Disclosure regulation
    • Voluntary firm disclosure
    • Assurance procedures
    • Assessment of firm performance and credit quality
    • Investment decisions (firm and capital provider decisions)
    • Governance and Board structure
    • Tax-related decisions
    • Corporate culture
    • Corporate outcomes (career, innovation, team, etc)
  • Diversity can be conceptualized in many ways (e.g., race, ethnicity, gender identity, sex, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, power differentials, disability status, neurodiversity).

There is no fee to attend the workshop, although participants are responsible for their travel and accommodation. A limited number of funds are available to offset hotel expenses; participants may request this on the registration form.

Registration is now closed for 2024.
