Where to Get Started

What is UDS?
Undergraduate Diversity Services (UDS) collaborates and builds bridges between the Foster School and the UW Office of Minority Affairs, Educational Opportunity Program Counseling Center. Services are geared towards providing assistance with admission, scholarships, academic advising and tutoring services. UDS works with pre-business students from underrepresented backgrounds to ensure a smooth transition to the Foster School.

Who participates in UDS activities?
All students affiliated with the UW Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity affiliated students (EOP, CAMP, Trio, Champions) – which serves underrepresented minority, first-generation and low-income students – who have an interest in business are considered for UDS programming. If you would like more information about affiliating with this program, please contact the OMA&D Academic Counseling Services Office.

BEOP SERVICES

Accounting 199
Accounting 199 is a supplemental 2-credit course providing in-depth instruction and explanation about topics covered in Accounting 215. Students enrolled in Accounting 199 have a noticeably higher final Accounting 215 grade, as well as an increased understanding of accounting. Students take the course concurrently with Accounting 215. If you are interested in taking this course please speak with a Foster School adviser in Founders Hall 132.

Tutorial Services
Foster/UDS funds funds business tutors in the Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity Instructional Center (IC), typically in ACCTG and ECON. The IC provides year round tutorial services in business core subjects, including calculus, economics, statistics and accounting. A wide variety of tutors are available to meet with students on a drop in basis. For more information about the Instructional Center and its tutorial services please visit the link above.

Winter Writing Skills Assessment (WSA) Workshop

The Writing Skills Assessment (WSA) is a required part of the Foster School of Business standard admissions process and must be completed prior to a student submitting their application. Learn more about the format and grading rubric for the WSA here.

This program provides an in-depth dive into the test and includes a proctored and graded mock exam. Personal Statement Drop-ins with EOP/UDS
These sessions are collaboratively planned between counselors in the OMA&D Academic Counseling Services and Undergraduate Diversity Services. The primary objective is to help inform EOP students of the stages of preparation for applying to the Foster School, as well as, review personal statements for their application. Drop-ins typically happen the week before Foster Standard Admissions deadlines and information for when they will occur can be found on the UDS or EOP Instagram, as well as, the UDS Newsletter.
