Program Details
The IES Abroad Berlin Program is a partnership between the UW Foster School of Business and the highly regarded study abroad provider IES Abroad. This Foster Partner Program has been designed to offer business credit through a lens of sustainability and innovation in the heart of this entrepreneurial capital city of Germany.
The 20-30 Foster students will choose 3-4 courses out of 6 offered, all taught by IES Abroad Faculty. Students will live in shared apartments a walk or metro ride away from where classes are held. In addition to earning UW credit abroad, the program also includes company and cultural visits in Berlin, as well as a 2-night field trip to Munich, all included in the program cost!
Eligibility:
- The program is open to Foster majors only
- There are no language pre-requisites for the program. All courses are taught in English.
- There is a minimum GPA requirement of 2.75 at time of application.
Program Highlights:
- Take 3-4 business classes at the IES Abroad Berlin Center located in the heart of Berlin in the Mitte neighborhood
- Travel with the cohort on a two-night field trip to Munich
- Live in shared apartments with other students on the program
- Enjoy cultural activities and excursions
- Visit German companies
Course Offerings
During Winter Quarter, students will take courses at the IES Abroad Berlin Center located in the Mitte neighborhood in the heart of the city. All courses are taught in English by IES Abroad faculty, many of whom will be from local universities.
Students take 3 or 4 of the 6 classes offered below. The price is the same regardless of how many courses a student completes.
Business courses:
- MGMT 320: (IES IB/MG 329) Business Ethics (4 UW credits)*
- IBUS 300: (IES IB 300) Global Business Perspectives (4 UW credits)*
- MKTG 301: (IES MK 300) Marketing Principles (4 UW credits)*
- MKTG elective: (IES MK 315) Introduction to Global Marketing (4 UW credits)
Non-business courses:
- GERMAN 399: (IES CU/SO 350) German Popular Culture (5 UW credits) – A&H/SSc
- ENVIR 495: (IES ES/EC/IB 343) Circular Economy (5 UW credits)

Program Cost
The total IES Abroad Berlin Winter Quarter 2025 cost is $12,336. This covers the cost of the credits, fees, housing, insurance, and program activities (company visits and cultural visits).
- $11,466 is due to IES Abroad
- $870 is due to UW by the Winter Quarter tuition deadline (UW & Foster Study Abroad Fees)
The cost for Winter Quarter 2026 is TBD.
Foster Study Abroad Fee
Each Foster Study Abroad Program will include the following fees: Foster Study Abroad Fee ($375) and UW Study Abroad Fee ($495).
The Foster Study Abroad fee is an Administrative Fee that funds all Foster Study Abroad activities, including organizing the programs, recruiting participants, assisting faculty, organizing pre-departure and post-return classes and events, and for providing study abroad advising for students. This fee is charged to all students participating on a Foster Study Abroad Program regardless of major.
