The Foster Rome Program

Unfortunately, the Foster Rome Program for Summer A, B and Full Term 2021 has been canceled due to COVID-19. This program will be offered again in Summer 2022 with the term(s) and courses announced this summer.

The Foster School Rome Program is focused on students earning upper division business core credit abroad during summer quarter. Each year the terms and pairing of courses changes with 2 courses offered during Summer A Term and/or Summer B Term. This is a great way to get to know other Foster undergraduate students and Faculty, as well as knock out some upper division business core all while getting to live in Rome, Italy.

Program Details

The Foster Rome Program is a cohort style program with around 20 Foster School of Business students taking courses from Foster Faculty at the UW Rome Center. Students live in shared apartments with one another in the very heart of Rome. All apartments are within a 30 minute walk of the UWRC.

Started in 2013, the Foster Rome Program is for currently enrolled Foster students or those who are applying to Foster in Spring Quarter the year the program runs. The program is designed to help Foster students with heavy requirements for their major (e.g., accounting majors or students with double options). By studying abroad – and, in particular, taking core business classes – students get an overseas experience and a head start on their core classes.

Students will visit local and regional businesses to learn about exporting olive oil, manufacturing high end cars, global supply chains, and more!

The program also includes several group dinners and cultural site visits to places including the Vatican, the Pantheon and the Coliseum, all included in the program fee.

Program Cost

The Foster Rome Program 2022 program fee will be posted in September 2021. As reference the program fee for 2020 was $6,300 for A or B, and $11,050 for Full Term (A+B). It is the same cost for all students. The program fee includes the cost of earning the credits, housing for the duration of the program, and program activity costs like group dinners and cultural visits. The program fee also include two administrative fees: the UW Study Abroad Fee and the Foster Study Abroad Fee. Students pay the program fee via their MyUW tuition statement just like they usually pay tuition. The program fee payment deadline is the same as that quarter’s tuition deadline. Nothing is due before that deadline.

Foster Study Abroad Fee

Each Foster School Study Abroad Program will have a program fee. In addition, participants in the program will be charged a Foster Study Abroad Fee of $350. This fee will be itemized on your payment contract and charged to your MyUW account at the same time as the program fee.

The Foster Study Abroad fee is an Administrative Fee that funds all Foster Study Abroad activities, including organizing the programs, recruiting participants, assisting faculty, organizing pre-departure and post-return classes and events, and for providing study abroad advice for students.
