The Alliances for Learning and Vision for Underrepresented Americans (ALVA) Business is an rigorous professional development certificate program for students of color from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds. The ALVA Professional Development Certificate is designed to train you in professional workplace skills that will benefit you for competitive internships and future professional employment. This model ensures that by completing the program, you will have received supplemental training applicable to the demands of the job market. The certificate will offer you the opportunity to explore critical professional competencies identified by employers.
ALVA Business is open to UW students interested in studying business. You must be able to attend all (4) Saturday sessions to be selected as part of the ALVA Business cohort. Workshop sessions are scheduled from 9:00 am—5:00 pm.

Application Process

ALVA Business students are selected through a competitive application process. Applicants will be evaluated based on the following:

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.0
  • Participation in all ALVA Professional Development Workshops
  • Leadership experience & activities
