Xiao-Ping Chen, a professor of management and organization at the University of Washington Foster School of Business, has been appointed incoming editor-in-chief of the journal Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes.
Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes publishes fundamental research in organizational behavior, organizational psychology, and human cognition, judgment, and decision-making. Financial Times considers it among the top 40 business research journals in the world.
Chen, an Evert McCabe Faculty Fellow at the Foster School, is an expert in the areas of cooperation and competition, global leadership, entrepreneurial passion and creativity, Chinese guanxi and cross-cultural management. Her recent work with Foster professor Suresh Kotha on the merits of entrepreneurial preparedness over passion was featured last year in the New York Times.
Chen is president of the International Association for Chinese Management Research, completing her eight-year term in June. At the Foster School, she currently serves as chair of the Department of Management and Organization.
In addition to her prolific scholarship in English, Chen is the author of four Chinese books: Managing Across Cultures, The Art of Balancing Work and Life, Empirical Methods in Organization and Management Research, and the forthcoming In Pursuit of Happiness: An Essay Collection.
