Interview on campus

Interviewing on campus (Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters) is an easy and convenient way to recruit talented Foster students and recent alumni for internships and professional career positions.

Foster Career Services can assist you with the interview process for our undergraduate and/or students in Specialty Master’s programs including Master of Professional Accounting, Master of Science in Information Systems, and Master of Supply Chain Management.

NOTE: reservations are accepted on a first-come first-served basis. Be sure to book your interviews early, as space can fill up quickly. Reservations are typically accepted 2-3 months prior to the beginning of each quarter.

Types of Interview Schedules

You are not locked in to one approach to your on campus interviews. The type of schedule you select will be determined by your needs and resources throughout the interview process.

1. Room-Only Interviews

Flexibility and control are yours as the candidate identification and scheduling is in your hands. Our interview rooms are available between 8:30am and 4:30pm, and you may schedule candidates however you’d like within this timeframe. This option is common:

  • Day(s) following Career Fairs and other campus recruiting events
  • Candidates sourced outside of HuskyJobs, ex. organization’s website

2. Preselect Interviews

Our HuskyJobs system makes the interview process easy for both you and the student. This option allows you to source, review, select, and schedule candidates all through our HuskyJobs system.

NOTE: Preselect Interviews must be booked at least 3-4 weeks in advance. This allows sufficient time to complete the entire process – application collection, candidate selection, interview sign-ups, and schedule finalization.

Preselect interviews aren’t necessarily the best option for all employers. We have found that Preselect Interviews are most successful (high volume of applicants) in the following circumstances:

  • Employers with a recognizable brand
  • Employers with an established campus presence at UW and/or Foster
  • Employers within specific fields such as Accounting or Consulting

If these categories don’t describe your organization, it doesn’t mean that you can’t have successful preselect interviews at Foster. However, it will require additional work from your recruiting team to generate student interest in the positions. Visibility and promotion is key!

Our Employer Relation Manager is always happy to discuss strategies best suited for your organization to increase visibility on campus. Contact us to learn more about your options or to determine if Preselect Interviews are the right option for you.

3. Remote/Virtual Interviews

Not able to make it to campus? Interview from the comfort of your own computer. For support in scheduling virtual interviews, contact Employer Services at bizhire@uw.edu.

Tips for Successful Interviews

1. Build a Campus Presence Before and After Interviews

We have found that employers that have established a brand presence on campus, and continue to do so in some capacity during “off season,” typically see a strong return in number of qualified applications and traction in attracting top talent.

Holding an information session, hosting office hours, attending employer events , and/or connecting with student organizations are ways to increase your brand presence months, weeks, and/or days before your resume deadline.

NOTES:
Information Tables
Information tables for the purpose of advertising employment opportunities or collecting resumes are not available through Foster or the UW Seattle campus at large.

Posters & Flyers
Foster does not have bulletin boards for advertising job opportunities, nor are there boards available in central campus locations. Although some departments may have in-house boards, they must be contacted individually regarding their posting policies.

2. Plan. Promote. Be Prompt and Proactive.

Plan in Advance
Plan your visit in advance as much as possible. This will allow time to collect resumes and promote your opportunity(s) using strategies noted above to ensure you reach qualified candidates.

Complete Employer Selections on Time
For Preselect schedules it is critically important that employers submit their candidate selections on time. Your pick date is selected strategically by your Employer Services Manger to allow students ample time to schedule interviews and to anticipate any system complications or schedule changes.

Room Only Reservation – Post to HuskyJobs
When hosting a Room Only Interview Reservation, consider posting your position(s) to HuskyJobs to increase visibility and attract more candidates. Your Employer Services Manager will provide information on how to post a position after your reservation has been made.

3. Visit Campus

Prepare Your Team
Ensure that all members of your team are forwarded a copy of your On-Campus Interview confirmation note, including date, times of interviews, maps, directions, and transportation information to our office in Dempsey Hall 212.

Parking & Traffic
On-campus parking can be unpredictable, particularly if you are arriving to campus after 8:30am. We highly encourage employers to carpool and/or arrange alternative transportation to campus such as public transit, Uber/Lyft, or taxi services.

Visiting from out of town? Traffic and weather conditions can often add substantial minutes to a normal commute time. Please plan accordingly and allow extra time to get to campus from downtown and/or Seattle Tacoma airport.
